Use reCaptcha on Drupal sites

You may already be familair with the concept of a captcha - essentially a little code for site users to enter into a field before submitting nodes or other forms to your website. Well, Drupal's had some good captcha options for a while now - including images, math questions and ASCII art.

Lately I've been noticing tons of sites on the web using reCaptcha and was happy to just come across a reCaptcha module for Drupal; you can grab a copy for 4.7x, 5.x *and* 6.x!

We're now using reCaptcha on this site so you can see it in action.  As for why its better than other captchas - not only is it a secure way to ensure human form submissions, you can feel good using it as the project was setup to improve Optical Character Recognition technology.

Right.Spam protect is priority.

Not sure about Re-captcha

Joe's picture

Although I know a friend has been using recaptcha for a while, he did say that a few people are having troubvle with it.  Entering the correct letters, but it's not allowing them in to post a comment or to login to things.  So, not sure if I'd use recpatcha, is there any other ones that are better?

I am using reCaptcha on one of my blogs. And do you know what? I receive much less spam now. As well as comments, however....

Not buying the OCR thing

Elessar's picture

I've come across a lot of different captcha formats in my time as a Phoenix web designer, and while I actually like the re-captcha ones the best, I'm not buying the claims that it's used to help digitize books.  If that were the case, they'd already need to have every word recognized before using them as captcha material, or there would be no way to tell if the word was entered correctly.  At best, I'd say they use it to help improve OCR software, which can be pretty finicky.

This is a pretty neat tool,

This is a pretty neat tool, but I kind of like the math problem ones i've been seeing lately! Those are kind different, and the letters aren't all screwy and hard to read.

Keep out the spam!

Drupal seems a great option. Referring specifically to this blog, i do get alot of spam on my art blogs with stupid short comments such as interesting blog or just even a smiley face! I would consider anything which blocks spam and inane comments across the board.
