Don't use the devel module on Dream Host

A couple of days back I had a terrible fright when the Drupal Developers Network went down! (Its a new site I just launched  to help Drupal professionals with gig and job listings).

It looked like the site started spitting a 500 Internal Server Error as soon as I had enabled the devel module; which I love for its crafty menu links like 'clear cache.'  After a couple of days of pondering why devel would muck up I came across a post on realjenius.com that details why the module won't work on Dream Host!

Well, the site's back up and running thanks to the helpful fellows at Dream Host and fact that they include automatic backups of both files and databases with their virtual hosting packages! Phew.

Alas, I won't miss the devel module thaaaat much; at least I can create custom menu items to do things like flush the site cache.

Thanks for the tip. I just signed up from dream host. I didn't like the fact that I had to sign up for 1 year but i have to admit it's cheap and you get  a great control panel. I will make sure not to use devel

Thanks for tips. Dream host is the best company. Their services and all packages are also good and satisfied. It’s a problem some time now is well. 70-623

There were also other problems like not being able to use PHP cache well, not being able to install Devel module (due to incompatiability issues) that began making the hosting experience quite a bit frustrating on dreamhost.

I wish I read this yesterday before installing Devel. O God, when Dream Host will start using newer version of Zend optimizer? That would solve the problem.
